I am looking forward to an exciting and productive year.  I am ready to help each student reach his/her potential, but this can only be achieved by a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.  Therefore, it is important to understand what is expected of each student in this class.

  1. Course Description: Math Skills is designed to reinforce concepts taught within the Algebra 2 classes.  Each day students will practice and review topics corresponding to the daily Algebra 2 lessons.  A variety of methods will be used to help reinforce concepts including, pencil/paper, whiteboards, and games.  Practice quizzes and tests will be given to help review for the assessments of Algebra 2 skills and to identify areas where further help may be needed.  Students are given the opportunity after every major test and quiz in Algebra 2, to bring the graded test or quiz to math lab.  We will review and rework all incorrect problems.  Test corrections not only help the students learn from their mistakes, but also make excellent study guides for the student’s midterms and final exams.
  •  Grades:  Your grade will be based on time on task during class, exit slips and short skill quizzes.  There will be no homework in this class but you must use your time wisely to in order to support learning in the Algebra 2 class
  • Typical week in Math Skills Expectations
Monday- warm up questions, questions on homework
Tuesday- warm up questions,  Algebra 2 reinforcement activity
Wednesday warm up questions, Khan Academy weekly assignment
Friday-  warm up questions, fluency practice and SAT practice

  • Calculators:  Students need to bring their own graphing calculators to class daily.  We recommend the TI-84, TI-84+ Silver or Color Edition, or Nspire CX.  If you have trouble making this purchase, the math department has a limited number of calculators that we can assign like textbooks.  Please speak with your guidance counselor or me.

  • Extra Help:  Extra Help is available to any student during lunch/activity period every day except when I have lunch duty (Tuesday and Friday), or after school.  Arrangements should be made ahead of time and you must come prepared with questions or specific topics that you would like to review.  Please understand that the lunch/activity period is often used for meetings and is also a very popular time for extra help sessions.  Don’t wait until the last minute to get help! As soon as you find you are having trouble with homework, class work and quizzes, please come and see me.
